INSIGHTS FROM ALL THE COLLOQUIA

"Learning is better if you learn from all different people, not just from your teacher and classmates, but also to those people who are excelling in different fields."

That statement is what I really learned after all the series of colloquia that we’ve had. And, I think this statement is very true. Sometimes you learn a lot when you listen to people who are very well excelling on their chosen fields. I don’t say that it is better to learn from them than to learn from our teachers. My point is just if you have theories learned from your teachers and if you have additional lessons from these people who are excellent, then learning becomes more comprehensive.

Like us, Mass Communication students, what we did really have helped us to at least become whole rounded professionals in the future. As Mass Communication students and future media practitioners, it is very important for us to know a lot of general information and general field. That is why I am commending this activity because it really has contributed a lot to us.

The colloquia could have been better if all the assigned organizers really prepared a lot. These are supposed to become serious and formal discussions but I have noticed that some of the organizers did not prepare a lot and in turn, the colloquium did not become nice and informative.

I think the colloquia will become more interesting if there were a number of guests per topic that were invited in the class. At least, if they are many, then there will be a greater possibility that there will be more thoughts and ideals that will be shared to us and be talked about.

MEDIA AND POLITICS…BUSINESS AND MILITARY

The media really has a very significant role in the Politics. This is what the invited speaker; Jay Sangil has shared us during his talk about media and politics, wherein I served as the host.

I learned that it is still on the person if he will be accepting bad money if he works as a journalist. Yes, there would be possible offers for this but it the journalist will choose not to take these offers, everything will all turn into the right flow- he will become a moral agent of the society.

I also learned that sometimes, the media is making the people become confused in terms of politics. It reports a different thing that is why the people are becoming confused whether which is right and which is wrong.

In business, I learned from the speaker that he still believes that there is still a greater hope for the Philippines to once again rise and have a glorious day. This could happen right now he said. Now, that there are still these youngsters who will save this country.

In military, I enjoyed listening to the experiences of the speakers when almost their whole lives were put into danger just to fight the crimes that are existing in this country.

IT’S STILL INDEED A COLLOQUIUM

When I listened to the colloquium wherein the speakers were Pong and Isa, I really did not find it a serious one compared to the other colloquiums that were organized. Perhaps, because the topic that is about to be discussed was entertainment. But still, in fairness to Isa, who spoke about fashion, I learned some suggestions from her in dealing with fashion and style.

On the other hand, when business was discussed, I was really encouraged to ask questions because I really am interested in putting a small business on day. And, in fairness to the speakers, at least they have shared some tips for me on how to start it and on how to deal with the possible problems that might appear.

During the talk on sports, I enjoyed following the executions of Ms. Roxy, the speaker for sports and recreation in her nice moves for Tai-chi. For this speaker, I learned how to protect my health by proper exercises and proper approaches to the calls of your health.

A TALK ON MED. TECH.

Because of my experiences about my mother who died last April, I was able to raise a lot of questions to the speaker who is a Medical technologist at Angeles University Foundation- Medical Center.

I asked questions about the cause of death of my mother and I also asked some of those that I think are wrong that are happening nowadays in the medical field.

I only realized something for this colloquium. You really could speak a lot if you have a past experience which could be related on the topic being discussed.

Like me who have had an experience about my mother, I was really very interested in listening to the speaker and this has also made me to ask some questions to her.

A TALK ON PHILO. LITT.. AND EDUC.

The first colloquium that we’ve had was the talk on Philosophy, Literature and Education.

I am somehow interested during the first talk because I really love listening to this invited guest that we’ve had, Mr. Jay Pajarillo. He was our teacher during our Ethics subject and I believe this is a very intellectual person. I enjoyed on how he gave his sentiments about the topic and on how he answered the questions raised both by the emcee, classmates and even Mrs. Bautista.

I also enjoyed listening to the talk about education by Mrs. Luna. Aside from the fact that I know her personally I also know on how she has surpassed all the struggles she has encountered in her life. That is why I know listening to her would be very contributive to my knowledge and skills.

I had a good time in listening to the invited nursing student who talked about Literature. I enjoyed it because I did not like poetry, which was his main topic but because I loved listening to the speaker and on how he boasted his skills in poetry.

In the end, an open forum which was started by my classmates happened.

CAMPUS JOURNALISM, DEAD?

Last Tuesday, we have attended a talk about the state of campus journalism in Angeles University Foundation.

The assigned group invited the staff of the Pioneer, AUF Official Student Publication and the editors-in-chief of every college paper, namely the Allimed (CAMP), CAS Ideas (CAS), Tradewings (CBA), Datalink (CCS), Teacher’s Pen (CED), Perspective (CE), and Nuscene (CON).

Each editor was given the chance to speak their mind regarding the state of campus journalism in AUF and the challenges they face as campus writers.

The editor in chief of the Allimed, Ms. Sarah Marie Kotowich said that the state of campus journalism in AUF is dead.

I must agree with Kotowich because that is what’s happening in AUF. Freedom of speech is being suppressed from the students because they can’t freely write what they wanted to express on papers. Basically, they are afraid that the Administration may reprimand them and get no support anymore.

But I guess, to make campus journalism be relived again in this University, campus writers must do something to resolve this problem. There are a lot of ways as said by the adviser of the Pioneer, Ms. Heather Bautista to express their liberal minds, without them sounding to be libelous and sarcastic.

There is still time to be freed. Let’s make the move and enjoy the gifts of campus journalism.

LIFE SUCKS...

How does someone measure one’s happiness? Is it on the material possessions she has? Or, is it on the achievements she has? Some people may say someone is happy if she has found the right person in her life. But, how about me, how do I measure happiness?

For the past few days, I was a bit sad because I cannot feel the care that must be given by other people to me. I must say I give all when I love somebody. I must say I make everybody happy. However, why can’t I feel the happiness I am longing for from the people I dearly love?

I have everything I tell you. But, am I happy? Well, I’m not.

PROCLAMATION RALLY 101

one of the candidates of the Team Unity, Chavit Singson

Last Tuesday, we went to San Fernando Convention Center to witness the Proclamation Rally of the Team Unity and to address the support of the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to the team.

After the tragedy in entering the doors of the Convention Center, finally we arrive at the hall where the candidates of the team have stated all their colorful platforms and promises to the Kapampangans. Definitely, election 2007 is drawing nearer to the curtains. Now, what does this mean?

This would mean that the Filipino people would be once again be faced to a very had decision making, that is who will they be voting as leaders for this dying country.

As youth voters, the Filipino youth has something to say with the issue I am pointing. The Filipino youth is known for his tough and sensible decision, therefore, to the Filipino youth, make sure that the names you will be writing on your election papers this May are those who are possessing leadership qualities and not those who have with them their hidden agenda that will just add to the present problems of this county.

Well to those who are experienced, please let realize that the results of your decisions will take effect and affect the youth and the coming generation. For this, please make a wise vote and think of us as you complete your vote sheets.

As to the Team Unity, please make all those beautiful promises you have given to my fellow Pampangenos when you finally got the seat for the Senatorial house.

VJ HUNT 07

There are many reasons why this year’s VJ Hunt, which was sponsored by the Department of English and Mass Communications and SAMASKOM became a success.

First, there was unity among people who have been part of the productions. The spirit of volunteerism among students of A.B. Mass Communication 3 was obviously eminent.

Second, there were great ideas that were shared during the affair. Everybody has given their own sharing which have brightened the whole event in general. For that I would like to commend the great ideas, which were shared by these different bright people of ABMC 3.

Finally, I think the very reason why it became very successful is that there is passion in doing every task. Why so? We all love what we have done.

These things suffice the reasons why this year’s VJ Hunt was a very successful one.

Kudos and Congratulations ABMC 3.

SWEET AND SOUR

Filipino…where is your life going?

I have asked this question; perhaps for all the problems this country is experiencing right now. It is not undeniable that this country is facing so many problems that hinder the potential growth of every Filipino.

Today, the Filipino nation is facing its greatest crisis ever. What would that be? It is the fact that there is no direct way where is his life be leading.

He is now in the crossroads searching and choosing the right path, where he would be traveling.

I can see many potential Filipinos whom I think will make it, if they are just given the chance to shine. But because of these problems, they sometimes tend to be misled by all means.
But still, I know the Filipinos, they are very tough and strong, and I firmly believe that they will make their brightest spot in the limelight.

CAN'T EXPLAIN MY HAPPINESS

I woke up today with a smile not so typical. I don't know why, but my heart and mind speak that I must be happy this day.

Why can't the world be perfect. Why can't people just experience happiness at all time, just like the happiness I do experience right now.

Well that is one fact of life, you can't never make things all fall into perfection. Yes, it would be a better world if everything is in the happy mood. But again, reality bites, life is never perfect.

With this, I envy those little children who seem not to experience any problem. When you see them, they are always happy, feeling well and only waiting for their mothers to call them and eat their meals.

How I wish I were a child right now, but time speaks, I am not a child anymore.

But thanks anyway because at least even for this day I could firmly say that I am happy.
How I wish this happiness will continue for the entire day, tomorrow and even for the coming more days.

To all my friends, my family, everybody who have shared moments with me, thank you very much. You guys are all the very reason why I am very happy this time.

Love you all guys.

ONLINE WRITING versus NEWSPAPER JOURNALISM

There are some differences when we talk about online writing and newspaper writing.

First, articles online are shorter as compared to the articles in the newspapers. Take for example, the articles in newspapers, you will be reading them for a time, but for online news articles, it would be faster for you to be reading them, since they are written, shortly.

Second, in newspapers, there are many advertisements that you can see all around in one page, but in the online newspapers, you will not see more, because they are grouped into boarders. What I mean is that there is a separation between news pages and advertisement spaces.

Third, it is obvious that reading an online article is more pleasing to the eyes rather than reading a newspaper which will surely make you feel uneasy because of the ink that scatters to the papers and the ink that spills to your fingers.

Finally, I would say that it is really nicer to read an online text rather than a paper text because if you somehow do not understand some part of the article, you could simply type into the search engine and find its meaning, which is a hassle task if you’re in a newspaper scenario.

I hope it will not sound that I am an online newspaper addict.

THE CURSE OF BEING THE PRESIDENT’S HUSBAND

In different press releases, newspapers, radio and television announcements, the name of the First gentleman Mike Arroyo is never being detached. He would even be a possible candidate for the Newsmakers of the Year. But, shall the Filipino people believe on every issue that is being hit and strike against him? Is there truth behind all these accusations against him? Or, is this a mere conspiracy?

During his privilege speech in the Senate, Opposition Senator Panfilo Lacson linked First gentleman Mike Arroyo to many untold stories of corruption in the government wherein proceeds of anomalous contracts and projects are allegedly personally delivered on him. Another thing is the controversy of his name being linked to Victoria Toh, of which was denied by the both parties.

But the question still remains, is there truth against these accusations.

Is it not possible that there are a lot of people who would like to destroy him and using this way, they think would be a very good instrument.

It is very unfair to become the husband or wife, whatsoever of whoever is the President of this country. With all your moves, there would be an equivalent interplay, be it positive, more so, a negative one.

Is this the curse of being the husband of the President of the Philippines? If this is so, how unfair it would be to him.

But still, to be very sympathetic to Mike Arroyo is an unfair task also. But as we move on, as days pass by, let us just see if these accusations would be verified as to their truth and falsity.

With all these things, I rest my case.
